Our organization dates back to 2012. The prerequisites for the unification of four girl leaders (Natalia Tarasenko, Bella Antonyan-Shevchuk, Yulia Melnyk and Yulia Vaskivska) were our active public position. Each of us is the winner of the competition for girl leaders “First Step to Success” from the ICF “Ukrainian Women’s Fund”. In order to scale our influence and bring about qualitative changes, we decided to unite and work together. Like any organization, we have our own path of development and transformation.
We started with the activity and focus of work with youth and were called Zhytomyr Regional Youth Public Organization “Parity”.
Over the course of 12 years, we have matured, grown and somewhat shifted priorities in our activities with target groups. To reflect our changes, we reflected them in our statutory activities. Therefore, today we have a new name - Public Organization “Center for Equal Opportunities “Parity”.
The gender component is a cross-cutting component in the organization's activities and is reflected in the Charter at the level of areas of activity. From the moment of its establishment to the present, the topic of protecting the rights of girls and women has been a cross-cutting theme in our activities, which is confirmed by the implemented projects and the award in 2016 of the world award "With And For Girls" among 20 organizations in the world for working with girls.
On the path of our development, we have gone through several stages: the crystallization of a value team and the formation of a coaching and expert pool of professionals, respectively, the transition from individual initiatives to systemic work, in particular in working with women and girls and in the implementation of gender budgeting on a systemic basis in the activities of local government units.
