Culture of Peace Studies for Social Educators and Social Workers of Zhytomyr Region

Under the support of the ICF “Ukrainian Women’s Fund”, an initiative was implemented aimed at strengthening the capacity of social educators/workers of Zhytomyr Region regarding the issues of integration and successful socialization of internally displaced people, resolution of conflict situations, prevention and counteraction the discrimination sand gender-based violence.

Within the framework of the project, three-day Culture of Peace Studies were held for two target groups: social educators of the Zhytomyr city IDPs and social workers of the region. 
Subjects studied:1. Implementation of restorative practices (mediation, thematic circles) as the most successful ways to resolve conflicts peacefully.2. The concept of gender equality.3. Counteraction the discrimination and factors of social exclusion.4. The role of women in peaceful conflict resolution.5. Development and implementation of effective communication campaigns in the interests of women and children.6. Social adaptation of combatants.7. Methodological tools for the work of social educators and social workers to promote human rights.
The practical significance of the project is in the implementation of a series of thematic events (over 50) by social educators who have successfully mastered the program of the Studies.
In their feedback on the project the participants noted that the Studios of the Culture of Peace increased their ability to organize socio-pedagogical work taking into account the new socio-cultural situation and new challenges of the time, helped overcome the fear of working with new target groups and topics, provided tools for resolving conflicts among participants in the educational process peacefully, and structured and systematized previously acquired knowledge.
